Every great idea starts somewhere!

A concept could exist in a 3D model, the back of a cocktail napkin, or even floating inside your head. No matter where that idea currently resides, we want to nurture it into a project with clear definition, milestones, and final goal. The concept is the initial step of the development cycle and usually the broadest. PEKO will frame this concept into a manageable scope while working to establish the critical details and fully understand the purpose.

Does it actually work?

The goal of the feasibility stage is to prove that a concept has merit and is functional. This stage involves refinement of the initial concept. The technology and science will be verified and optimized. Critical parameters will begin to be defined with variables and parameters. PEKO will engage initial testing to establish specifications and requirements. It is important to have dedication and focus through this feasibility phase, as it has proven to reduce design iterations and minimize “surprises” in future stages.

How to Get a Product Prototype Made!

After the concept has been functionally proven and specifications are being generated, it is time to turn the concept into reality. This often amounts to the “moment of truth” and will determine “how close” the concept really is. This stage can often require iterative loops of execution before success is reached. PEKO reduces the number of these iterations by thoroughly vetting the technology and focusing on functionality in these early stages of the development cycle. Functionality is key to a successful mechanical product’s development.

Pilot Build

Work out the kinks.

Lessons learned from Product Prototype Development Phase are addressed prior to the pilot build. Updates to improve performance and functionality, as well account for DFM and DFA are now implemented into the design. Test Engineering, QA, and Codes and Regulatory will begin to get involved in the project at this time, to review, qualify, and validate aspects of the project. These builds function as a final dress rehearsal, prior to production level release. It is typically the last chance to make any final design alterations, before release.

Ready for prime time.

This is the point that everyone has been waiting for; the first production build. At this stage the design is “frozen”, the drawings have been formally released and configuration control is implemented. Quality systems are in place to ensure each completed unit consistently meets customer, industry and PEKO standards. Volumes have typically increased and the final testing and regulatory requirements are approved.

At this point, production has matured and is successfully consistent. PEKO will work to develop new initiatives to improve production efficiencies. This includes various methods to improve quality, reduce lead times, and incorporate cost-down efforts. These efforts are a constant challenge to keep PEKO competitive and more importantly, provide our customers a competitive advantage in their marketplace.

Right back to where we started.

As production continues to progressively move forward and efficiencies improve, our customers must remain competitive and therefore, new ideas are generated. Simultaneous with the success of the current production, the next generation of development begins. In many cases, this is a similar or same core science with new technology advancements, a larger/smaller platform, or a significant cost down effort. Our long-term partnerships allow PEKO to be a key contributor in many next generation projects.

End of Life

What’s next?

There often comes a time when a product reaches End of Life. In many cases a next generation product has supplanted the previous generation and new technology has replaced the old. PEKO supports projects that have reached end of life in various forms for our customers. We provide spare parts inventory, field service and retrofit kits, and refurbishment programs.
